Bicycle Assembler

This individual should be organized, mechanically inclined, and dedicated to completing assignments and projects to meet the high standards of quality at Wheel & Sprocket.

Primary job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Unbox and inspect bicycles for shipping damage
  • Assemble new road, mountain, hybrid and children’s bikes according to established Wheel & Sprocket assembly standards
  • Inspect/test assembled bicycle, place bicycle into inventory, and update records according to Wheel & Sprocket processes
  • Assemble trailers, tag-a-longs, and other accessory products
  • Learn, understand and adhere to company policy, programs, and standards

The ideal candidate:

  • Has some experience repairing and tuning bicycles
  • Is neat and organized, and is respectful of a shared workspace
  • Is capable of safely lifting and carrying 40lbs on a regular basis
  • Is self-motivated, able to work both independently and as a member of a team, and thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment

Bicycle Technician

This individual should be organized, mechanically inclined, and dedicated to completing assignments and projects to meet the high standards of quality at Wheel & Sprocket.

This position is a part time or full time position; you will work up to 40 hours per week depending on the season, and you should have the ability to work evenings and weekends. During peak seasons, additional hours may be required.

Primary job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Interact with customers; provide customers with answers regarding basic maintenance and service accessories
  • Write work orders based on on-the-spot analysis; recommend maintenance beyond the initial customer request as appropriate, focusing on long-term bicycle safety and performance; provide customers with accurate cost estimates
  • Perform all repairs from minor repairs to full tune-ups based on experience and qualifications
  • Assemble new bikes as required
  • Perform other tasks assigned by store and service managers
  • Learn, understand and adhere to company policy, programs, and standards

The ideal candidate:

  • Has at least 2 years of mechanical or tech experience working on bicycles
  • Is neat and organized, and is respectful of a shared workspace
  • Has some experience in a retail or customer service environment
  • Is intrinsically motivated, able to work both independently and as a member of a team, and thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment

Master Bicycle Mechanic

This individual should be organized, mechanically inclined, and dedicated to completing assignments and projects to meet the high standards of quality at Wheel & Sprocket.

As a Master Mechanic, you will coordinate with the store and service managers to determine your schedule based on the needs of the service department. In season, the Master Mechanic may be expected to work more than 40 hours per week, while in the off-season this individual may take on the role of hourly technician or assembler.

Primary job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Write work orders based on on-the-spot analysis; recommend maintenance beyond the initial customer request as appropriate, focusing on long-term bicycle safety and performance, and provide customers with accurate cost estimates (the Master Mechanic may focus more on technical work than on customer interactions depending on staffing levels and service order volume)
  • Complete all scheduled work orders, from minor repairs to complete overhauls and builds, within the promised turnaround time
  • Perform minor repairs on the spot whenever possible
  • Maintain an organized, clean work area
  • Coaches and advises other technicians on mechanical and procedural concepts
  • Complete other tasks as assigned by the service manager
  • Learn, understand and adhere to company policy, programs, and standards

The ideal candidate:

  • Has at least 3+ years of successful mechanical or tech experience working on bicycles
  • Demonstrates continued professional development, and demonstrates expertise in one or multiple specialized technical areas (road, tri/TT, suspension/hydraulics, recumbent, etc.)
  • Is neat and organized, and is respectful of a shared work space
  • Is capable of safely lifting and carrying 40lbs on a regular basis
  • Is able to manage their time effectively and work under pressure
  • Is self-motivated, able to work both independently and as a member of a team, and thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment

Sales Associate

This individual is responsible for providing exceptional customer service and product knowledge to ensure that every person who enters our store feels welcome and enjoys his or her ride.

Primary job duties include but are not limited to:

Sales Excellence
  • Sell the fun of cycling & skiing to every person that walks through the door
  • Follow our selling process while upholding the vision, mission and values of Wheel & Sprocket
  • Support in-store events and annual off-site Bike Expo Sale
  • Achieve minimum sales-per-hour expectations
Customer Service Excellence
  • Provide consistently great customer service
  • Connect with customers on a personal level - if you cannot make a customer smile, you are too boring to work at Wheel & Sprocket!
  • Make customers feel welcome by making sure that the store is clean and inviting at all times
Inventory Excellence
  • Understand that inventory is extremely valuable and should be treated as cash
  • Follow proper computer systems procedures
  • Participate in physical inventory and cycle counts on a regular basis
  • Maintain merchandising standards
Payroll Excellence
  • Recognition that everyone is initially hired as a seasonal associate
  • Off season hours are scheduled based on performance, teamwork and continuous improvement throughout the year
Net Profit Excellence
  • Selling items at our price by understanding the value that customers get from shopping at an independent bicycle shop as opposed to a "Walmart" style sporting center

The ideal candidate:

Education and/or Experience
  • Has at least three months of bicycle or outdoor retail experience
Technological Skills
  • Has ability to read and comprehend instruction via email and online training modules
  • Has technological capability to learn and navigate our point of sale system, Ascend
Communication Skills
  • Has confidence and ability to effectively present information in a one-on-one and small group situation to customers and other team members
  • Has the ability to empathize and authentically connect with customers on a regular basis
Reasoning Ability
  • Can apply common sense understanding and problem solving skills to carry out instructions in a fast-paced, busy environment.

Service Manager

Wheel & Sprocket is a nationally-recognized specialty bicycle retailer with nine brick-and-mortar locations and an ecommerce operation. The Service Manager owns and drives all facets in the service department including managing work order queue to maintain 48-turnaround, supervise service writing and technician staff, handling warranties, oversee the service writing and technician roles.

Job Description

Technical Responsibilities
  • Write accurate work orders based on immediate evaluation to recommend maintenance and repairs as necessary focusing on long-term safety and performance.
  • Manage the queue of work orders to ensure 48-hour turnaround
  • Be able to perform most, if not all, levels of bicycle repair
  • Perform minor tasks on the spot whenever possible
  • Handle warranties on defective parts with manufacturers directly
  • Manage staffing levels based on daily workload
  • Manage shop supplies and tools
  • Handle customer complaints and instill a win/win philosophy throughout the department
  • Coach and advise other staff on mechanical, procedural or personal areas of development
  • Conduct staff and customer training sessions
  • Maintain high degree of organization and cleanliness
  • Easily operate common computer functions including email, documents, websites, etc.
  • Perform cycle counts and manage service inventory
  • Work cross-functionally with General Manager on identifying areas to improve the overall customer experience
  • Interpret productivity, sales, and scheduling reports and take appropriate action
  • Maintains current knowledge of sales and industry trends
